Why would someone need spiral wrap?
It may seem like something you could do without but spiral wrap offers convenience, organization, and protection for wires or hoses. Spiral wrap can be used in many applications.
For example, in an automotive application spiral wrap is used to bundle hoses together for a neat appearance and used as a covering to protect hydraulic hoses from abrasion that could cause a puncture. Spiral wrap also find many uses in the computer industry since we all know how many wires come out of computers! Using spiral wrap helps organize that mess of wires. In industrial settings, moving a hose from one place to another often means it is being dragged across the floor; spiral wrap protects the hose and increases its lifespan.
Available in different colors, many industries rely on spiral wrap for visual identification using this color coding feature. As an organizational and safety characteristic, spiral wrap provides a quick and convenient option for identifying cables and hoses.
What materials is spiral wrap made from?
Spiral wrap is available in many different materials and are chosen depending on the application. Constructed from polyethylene, nylon, PTFE, and fire resistant polyethylene, there is a spiral wrap that will meet the needs of any situation. The main uses for each material are as follows:
Polyethylene: Offering the lowest cost, this material is the best choice if there is no temperature rating needed. This material is the most cost-effective solution for general purpose applications. Black polyethylene wrap is ultraviolet resistant allowing it to be used outdoors in direct sunlight without degrading the material.
Nylon: Suitable for enclosed environments where the possibility of fire exists, nylon is self –extinguishing and abrasion resistant. Nylon is often chosen by the automobile industry for use in engines and by industrial operations to protect hydraulic hoses from abrasion. Nylon is also available in ultraviolet resistant black to protect the material from sun damage.
PTFE: Used in high-temperature applications, PTFE features the widest operating temperature range. It is chemically inert, non-flammable, and is supplied in standard natural color but available in black and other colors upon request.
Fire resistant polyethylene: A more cost-effective material than PTFE that still provides fire resistance.
What sizes are available?
That depends on the on the material. Sizes range from 1/16” up to 1½” outside diameter. These sizes can wrap around a bundle ranging from 1/8” to 10”.
What is the general lead time for an order?
Stock is available for every size in every material. Lead time could be as short as one day for an order to ship. With the largest inventory in the industry, M.M. Newman will be able to fulfill any customers request and meet all customers’ needs.
